Culture Minister Lisa Hanna is to tell the nation tomorrow the slate of activities the Government has planned to mark Jamaica’s Independence.
The programme is being planned under the banner ‘Jamaica 50’.
The programme of activities is to be outlined by Hanna at a press conference set for 10:30 tomorrow morning at Jamaica House.
Several activities have already been undertaken in the lead up to the official launch including a fireworks display on the waterfront in Kingston to ring in the New Year.
But following a change in the government after the 2011 General Elections, the new culture minister announced that the Jamaica 50 programme would be restructured after the discovery of several alleged breaches in procurement and other procedures.
Hanna had raised questions about how money set aside for the celebrations was being spent by the previous administration and later requested a special probe by the Auditor General.
